This winter, we’ll be heading to Box Hill in Surrey, combining a scenic hike with a photoshoot for those brave enough to venture out into the cold.

About Box Hill

Box Hill is located in Surrey, South East England, just outside Dorking. It forms part of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and lies approximately 25 miles (40 km) south-west of central London. The area is renowned for its chalk hills, woodland and sweeping panoramic views.

Meeting Point

We will meet at a pub just outside the station. Further details, including the exact meeting point and time, will be shared closer to the event.

Is January a good time to visit Box Hill?

Pros

• Fewer visitors, making it quieter and more peaceful

• Crisp winter light, ideal for photography

• Clear days often provide far-reaching views

• A stark, atmospheric landscape unique to the winter season

Cons

• Cold temperatures and shorter daylight hours

• Paths may be muddy, slippery or icy after rain or frost

 If you enjoy winter walks, don’t mind the cold, and come prepared with sturdy footwear and warm clothing, January can be a rewarding and dramatic time to experience Box Hill, particularly for hiking and photography.

What we recommend bringing:

• Warm clothing

• Windbreakers

• A change of socks

• A change of shoes

• Hiking boots or similarly suitable footwear (e.g. trainers)

• A bottle of water, ideally warm or hot

• Sunglasses

• Sun cream

• A hat

✨ Come for a fun day, capture amazing memories, and take home some beautiful photos!✨ Don’t forget to bring a tripod and your creative ideas for the shoot!

✨ Be prepared for any weather, bring a warm jacket, a wholly hat and gloves, plus a change of clothes. We often bring extra costumes to switch into for the shoot.
