Frequently Asked Questions
🤸 AcroYoga FAQs
1. What is AcroYoga?
AcroYoga is a dynamic physical practice that blends elements of yoga, acrobatics, and Thai massage. It is typically practiced with a partner or in small groups, building trust, communication, and connection.

2. What are the main roles in AcroYoga?
There are three primary roles:
Base: Provides the foundation and support.
Flyer: The person lifted and moving through poses in the air.
Spotter: Ensures safety and helps guide transitions.

3. Do I need a partner to join a class?

No partner is required! In our classes, we facilitate regular partner rotations, giving you the opportunity to work with a variety of people if you choose. Solo participants are always welcome and fully supported. For safety reasons, especially when learning certain movements or tricks, you'll often work in groups of three or more.

4. Do I need to be strong or flexible to start?
Not at all. AcroYoga is for all body types and skill levels. Our classes will include beginner-friendly exercises and progressions to help build strength, flexibility, and coordination over time.

5. Is AcroYoga safe?

Safety is our top priority. While we use a standard approach to spotting, we recognise that everyone’s needs are different. That’s why we offer a variety of supportive techniques tailored to each acroyogi.

We gradually encourage the development of strong foundations through effective technique, alignment, and spotting practices.

Clear communication is essential for reducing the risk of injury across all roles in our acro sessions, and it's a skill we actively encourage and develop throughout each class.

6. What should I bring to class or a private session?

For a class:
-
Water bottle
-
Comfortable clothing
-
Snacks
-
Optional: towel, journal, or notebook for notes.

For a private session:
This will depend on whether it takes place outdoors, at our studio, or at a venue of your choice. We’ll confirm any specific requirements in advance.

7. What should I wear to class?

Wear comfortable, fitted clothing that allows for ease of movement, such as leggings with a T-shirt or vest top work well. Please avoid loose items or jewellery if you can, as they can get caught during practice. If you have long hair, we recommend tying it back securely for safety.
8. How is AcroYoga different from acrobatics or yoga?
While AcroYoga incorporates elements of both, it emphasises connection, playfulness, and therapeutic touch. The focus is on mindful movement, teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration.

9. Do I need prior yoga or fitness experience?

No prior experience is required. AcroYoga is accessible to anyone with curiosity and a willingness to learn, although practising yoga can be very helpful in supporting your AcroYoga journey.
10. Can children or older adults practice AcroYoga?
Yes! Absolutely. AcroYoga can be adapted for all ages and abilities. We occasionally offer family and children’s classes. Please get in touch if you would like more information.
11. How often should I practice?
As often as feels right for you! Like yoga, you’re encouraged to listen to your body, develop greater body awareness, and take your time with each movement. Beginners might start with one class per week. Regular practice supports the gradual improvement of strength, trust, and technique.
12. Is AcroYoga a workout?
Yes, and much much more! AcroYoga builds core strength, balance, coordination, and flexibility, while also fostering trust and communication.
13. What if I’m afraid of falling?

AcroYoga places a strong emphasis on spotting and communication to help manage fear and gradually build confidence.

Feeling fear is completely normal, and we actually recommend embracing a little fear as part of your journey. However, it’s important to listen to your body, it will let you know when it’s ready. Fear serves as a useful signal, helping you recognise when you’re not quite ready for a movement. With time and exposure, movements will begin to feel more comfortable and approachable.
14. Can I attend if I have an injury?
It depends on the injury. Check with your doctor and inform the instructor beforehand so modifications can be offered.
15. How can I continue learning outside of class?
Practice with friends (safely!) Attend workshops or festivals. Follow online tutorials or classes. Consider private lessons or joining a local AcroYoga community.

16. What levels are on offer?

We offer various levels for your comfort. Absolute beginners, Beginners, Improvers, Intermediate, Advanced.

17. Do you offer private AcroYoga sessions?

Absolutely. AcroYoga teaches clear, honest communication, consent, and active listening. Many people find it improves their relationships and emotional awareness.

19. How long does it take to get good at AcroYoga?

Progress varies for everyone. With consistent practice, most people start feeling more confident within a few weeks. Mastery of more advanced skills takes time, patience, and trust.

20. What is therapeutic flying?
Therapeutic flying is a gentle, restorative aspect of AcroYoga in which the flyer is passively stretched and supported in the air, often experiencing a sense of deep relaxation. It can aid recovery and support nervous system regulation.
This practice is optional and not included in every class, but it is available upon request.
